I have been developing a building system using grain bins as the structure for about fifteen years. I have always liked designing with circular spaces, curvilinear forms, domes etc. Using the bins makes it affordable along with many other beneficial aspects. Using the bins with foam insulation makes a continuous SIP (structural insulated panel). Using the bins in conjunction with particular types of foam insulation makes for a very strong, wind/flood/earthquake resistant shell. Maintenance free for at least seventy years and no need for added siding, roofing or drywall. The steel provides for fastening points everywhere. They can be built w/o concrete footings in remote locations. They can be moved whole and easily recycled and modified. What's not to like? These are just some of the ideas and plans - There are many others in development in my office, out of sight for now.
